BARBOURVILLE, Ky. = Bluefield University softball dropped a doubleheader to Union College in Appalachian Athletic Conference action, Tuesday. The Bulldogs scored three times in their last at-bat to take game one 4-2, and UC won the nightcap 4-1.
In the opener the Rams took a 2-0 lead on back-to-back RBI doubles by
Chloe Hicks and
Kristina Sanchez. Union scored three in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead and take the victory. Bluefield pitchers
Hallie Cox and
MacKenzie Franklin held Union to four hits. Cox worked five-and-a-third innings in the circle and struck out three, while Franklin pitched the final two-thirds of an inning.
In game two Bluefield got on the board in the first. Union tacked two on the board in the third and added single runs in the fifth and sixth. The Rams were held to four hits, two by Gianna Lebron-Sloan, who scored Bluefield's lone run.
Kerstin Buchanan and Franklin had the other two hits for the Rams.
Bluefield returns to action Saturday, weather permitting when Columbia International University visits Graham Rec Park.
