Rams down St. Andrews in barn burner

BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University men's basketball won its second consecutive game as they defeated the St. Andrews University Knights in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game at the Dome Gymnasium on Tuesday, 75-73.
INSIDE THE GAME
  • The Rams grabbed an early 10-4 lead before the Knights tied the game at 17 and took their first lead 19-17.
  • SAU held the lead through the remainder of the opening half and carried a 33-28 advantage into the halftime break.
  • Bluefield tied the game at 50 on a basket by Rob Rhodes with just under nine minutes to play and the teams exchanged the lead for the remainder of the game.
  • Elijah White dropped a three with 3:00 on the clock to put BU ahead 69-67 and the Rams were up by six with 90 seconds to play.
  • St. Andrews tied things at 73 with 29 seconds remaining.
  • White's alley-oop pass to Danny Alford with 19 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winning basket as the Rams broke the tie and went up 75-73. The final point came from the free throw line.
LEADERS
  • Donavon Martin topped the Bluefield scoring column with 23 points.
  • White had 12 points and three assists.
  • Alford finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
  • Quantavis McKinney added eight rebounds.
