Rams sweep KCU on Senior Day

BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University baseball wrapped up regular-season play Saturday with a doubleheader against Kentucky Christian University on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon at Bowen Field. The Rams took the opener 16-6 and the gained the sweep with a 9-5 victory in the nightcap.
Prior to the action Bluefield University honored senior members of the baseball team: Nate Cobb, Clay Wisner, Ben Coffman, Clayton Lewis, David Meech, Taylor Meaux, Eligha Lewis, and James Burcham.
GAME ONE
INSIDE THE GAME
  • Cobb tripled to lead off the Bluefield first and scored on Taylor Maldonado's single. The Rams scored another on a sac fly by Meaux, and two more on Eligha Lewis' single. Cobb's second triple of the inning scored three to make it 7-0.
  • Maldonado blasted a two-run homer in the third to put the Rams up 9-2.
  • Eligha Lewis hit a solo homer in the fourth and the Rams added two in the fifth and seventh innings.
  • The Rams walked it off with a pair of runs in the eighth, invoking the mercy rule.
LEADERS
  • Cobb was 4-for-6 with a pair of triples and three RBIs.
  • Maldonado, Meech, and Eligha Lewis each had three hits. Maldonado and Lewis each knocked in four runs and homered.
  • Ryan Voss picked up the win, working five innings and striking out three.
  • Andrew Arguello pitched the final three frames and fanned two.
GAME TWO
INSIDE THE GAME
  • KCU took early 3-1 lead Rams tied with Meaux two-run homer in the third.
  • BU went ahead in the fourth on a sac fly by Meech and an RBI single by Wisner.
  • The Knights scored two in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5.
  • Meech drove home Cobb with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Meaux drove in two more with a single.
LEADERS
  • Wisner was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
  • Maldonado, Meaux and Kevin Torres each had two hits, Meaux drove in two and had a homer.
  • Arguello, in his third appearance in as many games, picked up the win working the final three innings.
NEXT IN LINE
  • The Rams enter Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament play as the seventh seed. They will take on 10th seeded Columbia International University in a play-in game Tuesday, May 3 at 10 a.m. in Kingsport, Tennessee.
