Rams split twinbill with Point

BLUEFIELD – The Point Skyhawks scored five runs in the top of the ninth in game one of a doubleheader at Bowen Field to defeat the Bluefield University Rams 11-8 and snap the Rams' 15-game winning streak. The Rams rebounded in the nightcap with an 11-5 to gain a doubleheader split.
 
GAME ONE
INSIDE THE GAME
  • Point scored the game's first run on an inside-the-park home run by Jakob Smith in the first inning.
  • Bluefield tied the game in the second. David Meech singled and later scored on a Tyler Medlock base hit.
  • BU took the lead in the third when Taylor Meaux scored after a single and later reached home on an error.
  • PU tied the game in the fifth.
  • The Rams exploded for six runs in the fifth. The big hit a two-run single by Taylor Maldonado.
  • The Skyhawks plated four in the seventh, three on a home-run by Smith, his second of the game.
  • Point scored five in the top of the ninth to forge ahead 11-8.

INSIDE THE GAME
  • The Rams took a 5-0 lead in the first. The big hit a two-run single by Kevin Torres. Bluefield sent 10 batters to the plate in the opening inning.
  • Point responded with four in the second as Kole Sonnier hit a three-run home run.
  • The Skyhawks tied it in the fifth thanks to a BU error and wild pitch.
  • Bluefield retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth with five runs.
LEADERS
  • Aristy, Clay Wisner, and Torres each had a pair of hits to lead BU.
  • Ryan Voss picked up the pitching victory.
