COACH ALVAREZ SAID...
"Last night we played Georgetown and there is little doubt that they are a top team in our conference. They have firepower at every position. They have an explosive offense that will punish you when you make a mistake. I felt like we were able to hang in there with them in the first set. It was a couple of plays that they made after a mistake on our side that proved to be the difference. In the second set we were playing catch-up the whole time and it got away from us. We are a different team when we play with a lead. I felt like the third set was another strong one for us, but at the end they were just very strong and we couldn't get to a fourth set," Alvarez said.
"We spent the entire day leading up to the Rio Grande match in meetings with players to explain what we needed them to improve upon as we continue on. I felt like our guys learned from the mistakes that we made against Georgetown, but we have some corrections to make. Our guys came out firing in the first, set and the scoreboard showed. We did a great job of executing our game plan. In the second set I subbed in a couple of backups and the guys lost some focus. During a time-out I was able to focus their attention and I think that they did a great job of putting them away, leaving no doubt. I'm proud of our work, but we will need to get some small issues resolved before we can compete how we want to."
