No. 9 Georgetown defeats Rams 61-19

BLUEFIELD - The No. 9 Georgetown College Tigers defeated the Bluefield University Rams 61-19 Saturday afternoon at Mitchell Stadium.
The Rams got off to a rocky start when they started the first possession of the game on their one yard line. A punt gave Georgetown the ball in BU territory and with just over nine minutes remaining in the opening period Georgetown crossed the goal and the extra point made it 7-0. BU responded on the ensuing possession. The Rams marched 52 yards in seven plays to tie the game. The drive capping play was a four yard Nathan Herstich pass to Matthew Trevillian for the score. Tanner Griffith added the PAT and the game was tied with 7:16 to play in the first.
Georgetown then caught fire and scored 28 unanswered points to take a 35-7 halftime lead. The Tigers added two more scores in the third period before BU got on teh board with 7:53 left on a 24 yard pass from Herstich to Jaquan Ebron. Griffith's kick made it 49-14.
Georgetown moved ahead 61-13 before the Rams added their final score of the afternoon, a 16-yard pass from Josh Nelson to Ebron with 1:40 remaining in the game. The kick failed.
Ebron finished the game with nine catches for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Antonio Strickland rushed nine times for 51 yards, and caught five passes for 59 yards. Herstich completed 19-of-31 passes for 226 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Nelson was four-for-four for 66 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively DaMarcus Wimbush had a team-high nine tackles and a sack that added to his all-time sack leader status. Sam Kirtley had seven stops and Kedarrius Phinazee six.
