Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer opens with win at Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. – Bluefield University men's soccer opened the 2021 season with a 2-1 win over the Emory & Henry College, Saturday afternoon on the E&H campus.
After a scoreless first half the Rams scored first on a goal by Axel Johansson with an assist from Jonathan Gonzalez in the 67th minute. Emory & Henry Tied the match in the 85th minute with a goal by Cesar Tobar Monge. The Rams took the lead and the game when Ian Sumrall scored in the 88th minute with an assist from Devin Calloway.
Head Coach Justin Morton said, "We came out of the locker room very slow compared to the energy and effort we plan to bring to teams this season. We were slow to get into the game and struggled to connect passes early on. We tried some interesting things with Axel to try and get him more involved in the attack, but ended up having to move him back to defense.
"Emory is making the transition to NCAA Division II and you can really tell that their recruiting has elevated and the level is higher than before. We look forward to having them be a regular fixture in the future.
"We learned a lot about ourselves with this math. It's always good to get a win on the road, but we are not satisfied."
The Rams return to action Tuesday at Shawnee State (Ohio).
