Rams have no mercy on Pikeville

BLUEFIELD - BC Baseball got back on the winning track Wednesday afternoon with a 12-2 non-conference win over the University of Pikeville at Bowen Field. Ozzie Millet's double to right ended the game in the bottom of the seventh as a run scored and the 10-run mercy rule took effect.
The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth only to see the Rams forge ahead in the bottom of the inning. Joseph Cardona doubled home BC's first run, Eligha Lewis tied the game with an RBI single, David Meech followed with a run-scoring single and Elianel Mejia brought home the Rams final run on a sacrifice fly.
The Rams scored eight times in the seventh to get the early win, the final blow being Millet's double to deep right.
"It's all amazing to end the game. It was a short day today and we saved some pitchers for the weekend against Reinhardt," Millet said. "I am happy we swung the bats because we really struggled the last couple of series with the bats."
Cardona led Bluefield at the plate. The senior catcher was 4-for-4 with three RBIs. David Meech was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in, and Millet was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Zach Powell, the third of five Bluefield pitchers earned the win. Powell worked the fifth inning and did not allow a hit or run.
