Rams fall at AAC Tournament

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The 2021 season for Bluefield College softball concluded Monday afternoon as the Rams fell to the Brenau University Golden Tigers 4-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament at Brickyard Field.
The Rams, playing in their first AAC Tournament since rejoining the league in 2015, fell behind 1-0 when the Tigers scored in the third inning. BU pushed across three more runs in the fourth for a 4-0 lead, which was the final score.
Bluefield was held to three hits in the contest, two by Kristina Sanchez and one by Claudia Santana. Jocilyn Thompson started in the circle and suffered the defeat. Thompson pitched three-and-one-third innings, and struck out three. Lexi Harmon pitched the final two-and-two-third innings and struck out one.
"We had one tough inning today that hurt us," said BC head coach Sam White. "JT and Lexi kept it close. Kris was big for us with a couple of hits and stellar defense.
"This team fought extremely hard all year and made some huge strides. I cannot begin to explain how proud we are of these young ladies. They have set the bar high for future teams. The entire staff is grateful for our seniors."
The Rams finished 16-19 overall and 10-16 in conference play in White's first year as coach.
