Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

NAIA #3 Campbellsville upends Rams

BLUEFIELD – Men's Volleyball fell to the NAIA third ranked Campbellsville University Tigers, Monday evening in a Mid-South Conference match at the Dome Gymnasium 22-25, 18-25, 14-25.
Jariel Diaz's kill gave Bluefield the first point of the match, but Campbellsville responded and took a 9-3 lead. The Rams fought back with a 7-1 run to tie the opening set at 10. The energized Bluefield squad battled Campbellsville point-for-point until the visitors moved ahead by three, 18-15. BC got to within a point thanks to a kill by JoVeaun Banks, but could draw no closer and Campbellsville took the first set 25-22.
Campbellsville scored first in set two, but Bluefield rallied to tie at five. The Tigers scored five unanswered to take the lead and built a 15-9 lead. After a Rams time out, BC went on a 3-1 run to close the gap, but Campbellsville pulled away. A 5-1 run by the Rams brought the home team to within four at 22-18, but CU scored the final three points to win the set and go ahead 2-0.
Bluefield College claimed the initial lead in the third set and was up 2-0 after Alberto Chiaparini's kill. Campbellsville then went on a 6-1 run and eventually built an 11-point lead, which was the final margin 25-14.
Chiaparini, named the Mid-South Conference Attacker of the Week on Monday for his performances last week, led Bluefield College with 10 kills. Tony Martin had 19 assists and Colby Mutter five digs.
BC head coach Alfonso Alvarez commented after the match, "I feel like we played the No. 3 ranked team in the nation today and at times we were very competitive. We gave them all they could handle and there were other times where we didn't compete as much. I think a couple of guys who really stood out for me today were JoVeaun Banks, he played really well for us on the front row, and Alberto Chiaparini, who played a phenomenal game again."
