Rams down State in softball opener

BLUEFIELD - Softball took the opening game of the Battle of the Bluefields, Saturday afternoon at Bluefield High School, 12-3.
The Rams built an 11-1 lead over Bluefield State, scoring twice in the first, five times in the second, and four more in the third.
Jocilyn Thompson picked up the win in the circle, working all five innings. She struck out four Lady Blues batters.
Lexi Harmon was 4-for-4 with seven RBIs. Harmon slugged a grand slam homer and had a double. Chloe Hicks knocked in five runs. Claudia Sanchez had a pair of hits, while Kristina Sanchez also drove home two runs.
"Jocilyn had another strong start for us. Lexi really turned on the offense with a huge hit early," said Rams head coach Sam White. "Defensively, we made clutch plays to maintain the lead."
