Rams earn split on diamond at Montreat

MONTREAT, N.C. - Softball bounced back in the nightcap of Thursday's doubleheader at Montreat and defeated the Cavaliers 12-5 to earn a split in the AAC contests. Five runs in the second and sixth innings propelled the Rams to victory.
Christina Sanchez powered the Bluefield College offense with three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Laken Sparks had a pair of hits and knocked in a run. Chloe Hicks had two his with an RBI, Kristina Sanchez had a triple with two RBIs, Lauryn Bailey had two RBIs, and Kelsey Topliff tripled.
Jocilyn Thompson, in addition to having a triple, earned the win for Bluefield College as she pitched five innings and struck out six. Taylor Nunn wrapped things up with two scoreless innings.
"JT got her first win! I'm very proud of the way she handled herself," said Rams head coach Sam White. "Sanchez was a bright spot on defense. Peanut (Bailey) carried the offense with a couple of RBIs. It was good to see Nunn come in and close both games"
The Rams are now 7-7 overall and 3-5 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. BC is back in action Saturday afternoon against Bluefield State. It is a home game for BSC and will be played at Bluefield High School.
