Rams muzzle Bulldogs

BLUEFIELD – They never gave up. Down 10 points in the second half, the Bluefield College Rams charged back and took an 80-74 win over the Tennessee Wesleyan University Bulldogs, Tuesday night at the Dome.
BC held the lead early by as many as five points before Wesleyan drew even. For a period of time the teams were within a basket of each other until late in the first half TWU pulled away to take a 43-37 halftime lead.
TWU went up by as many as 10 points early in the second half, but the Rams did not have quit in their blood. Bluefield stormed back to tie the game and take the lead. The Rams closed out the game at the free throw line to take the win.
Jermiah Jenkins was atop the BC scoring column with 22 points. He added three assists and a block. Stanley Christian recorded another double-double as he popped in 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Brandon Shields rounded out Bluefield scorers in double figures with 17 points.
The Rams shot 45% from the field in both halves. Tennessee Wesleyan shot 46% for the game after making half of their shots in the opening 20 minutes.
"It was a great effort from the guys. I thought we played spots of good defense but we let them have too many offensive rebounds," said Rams head coach Richard Morgan. "I told them before the game today that #12 (Billy Balogun) was going to get all the rebounds, the extra possessions for them. That's what he does.
"I felt comfortable staying with that group. I didn't put a lot of guys in the mix because I didn't want to mess up what we had. They were playing well. I don't like taking guys out when they are playing well. I really appreciate the effort they gave and I knew when they kept letting Jenkins get the ball down the stretch, I knew it was tough for them because he is going to make his free throws."
Balogun finished with 17 rebounds and 16 points to lead Tennessee Wesleyan. Jenkins made 9-of-10 free throws.
