BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Rams baseball concluded its three-game AAC series at Union College, Friday afternoon, with an 11-9 win over the Bulldogs to take the first conference series of the season.
The Rams jumped ahead 3-0 in the first and stretched it to 4-0 with a single run in the third. Union tagged a three on the board in the bottom of the third, but the Rams responded with a four spot in the top of the fourth to lead 8-3. UC added three more in the fifth. BC then scored two in the eighth and one in the ninth before Union attempted a comeback and scored three in the bottom of the ninth. The Bulldogs had the winning run at the plate when the game's final out was recorded.
Ozzie Millet,
David Meech, and
Joseph Cardona each had a pair of hits. Meech drove in three runs, Millet and Cardona knocked in two apiece.
Taylor Meaux slammed a two-run home run.
Andrew Arguello pitched five innings for the Rams and struck out five to get the win.
Tyler Lowrey hurled the last four frames, struck out four and earned the save.
"It was a great team weekend," said head coach
Mike White. "The guys really battled against a talented Union club."
The Rams are now 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The next outing is a doubleheader, Wednesday at Pikeville.
