BLUEFIELD - The men's Battle of the Bluefields came down to the final seconds before the Bluefield State College Big Blue came away with a 95-92 win over the Bluefield University Rams , Thursday night at the Dome Gymnasium.
The Rams jumped to an early 11-2 lead before BSC fought back to take the lead. State led 48-40 at halftime. The Rams slowly battled back in the second half and midway through the final 20 minutes BU knotted the game at 69. The remainder of the game was a back-and-forth battle. BSC tied the game at 90 with just over a minute to play, and later tied things at 92. The Big Blue got the go-ahead basket with 15 seconds to play, and added a late free throw for their final margin of victory.
Jermiah Jenkins led the Rams with 21 points and Rob Littlejohn added 17. Brandon Shields had 13 points with six rebounds, and Volante Carroll had a team-high 12 rebounds.
The game was an exhibition for the Rams, and a regular season contest for Bluefield State. The Rams are back in action Saturday afternoon in the AAC opener against Truett McConnell at 2 p.m. in the Dome.
