Men's hoops holds off Columbia International

BLUEFIELD - Bluefield University men's basketball picked up its second AAC win of the season Thursday night at the Dome Gymnasium, holding off the Columbia International University Rams 76-74.
The BU Rams scored the game's first basket and built a lead as high as 12 points in the first half. Bluefield held onto the lead into the second half before the CIU Rams got their first lead of the game 65-63 with just over four minutes to play. The remainder of the game would be nip-and-tuck down to the final second.
A dunk by Volante Carroll off a rebound brought BU within a point of tying at 73-72. A pair of free throws by Jermiah Jenkins with 23.4 to play put BU on top 74-73. Jenkins then made a steal and was fouled driving for a layup. He sank both shots to make it 76-73 with 10.2 on the clock. CIU moved down court and was fouled attempting a three. The CIU Rms missed the first two free throws, then sank the third to make it 76-74 with 2.2 seconds to play. BU committed a dead ball foul while attempting to inbound underneath the CIU basket. CIU's shot at the buzzer failed and Bluefield gained the win.
Jenkins led Bluefield with 21 points and Carroll added 18. Rob Littlejohn had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
