BLUEFIELD - The Cumberland University Phoenix defeated men's volleyball in Mid-South Conference volleyball action Thursday afternoon at the Dome in three sets 25-18, 25-16, 29-27.
The Rams and Phoenix battled closely in all three sets before CU pulled away late in each for the victory. The most exciting set of the afternoon proved to be the third where no more than two points separated the teams for most of the set.
Carleek Owens led Bluefield with 16 kills. Caleb Word had 27 assists and Colby Mutter had 10 digs.
The Rams host NAIA No. 1 Campbellsville, Friday night at 7 p.m. in a Mid-South Conference match.
