BLUEFIELD - Damauri Sexton scored 25 points and
Jermiah Jenkins added 20, but it was not enough as the Montreat College Cavaliers defeated men's basketball 99-92 in Wednesday night AAC action at the Dome Gymnasium.
Montreat claimed the early lead and built a double-digit advantage, but the Rams charged back and closed the gap, trailing only by nine at halftime, 53-44. The visitors shot 59 percent from the floor in the first half in taking the lead.
In the second half Montreat built its biggest lead of the game, 15 points with seven minutes to go in the game, but again the Rams charged back and on several occasions closed to within four points. BC could get no closer in the closing minutes. The Bluefield defense held Montreat without a basket from the field in the final 3:21.
In addition to Sexton's 25 and Jenkins' 20,
D'Monte Evans added 17 points and
Niquan Cousins dropped in 10.
Stanley Christian, in his first game at BC had a team-high eight rebounds, while Sexton and Cousins had seven boards apiece.
