BLUEFIELD - Chaz Franqui picked up his 1,000th career assist as a Ram and men's volleyball picked up a three-set Mid-South Conference win over Cincinnati Christian 25-17, 25-23, 25-17, Friday afternoon at the Dome Gymnasium.
In the opening set the Rams opened a four-point lead but CCU hung around. The Eagles cut the BC lead to two at 14-12, but an Aieron Leary service ace pushed the Bluefield lead to five forcing CCU to call time, the Rams then pushed ahead 20-12 and went on to win the first set 25-17.
In the second set the Rams went ahead by seven on a kill by
Carleek Owens, then took a seven-point lead on Franqui's 1,000th assist. CCU then charged back and tied the set at 19, took the lead at 20-19 and forged ahead 22-20. Bluefield stormed back and scored five of the game's final six points to win the second set 25-23.
The Rams claimed the early lead in the third set and did not trail. They led early by four, then six, and late in the set built an eight-point lead before winning by eight, 25-17.
Owens had 12 kills to lead the Rams, while Franqui had 31 assists and eight digs.
