LINDSIDE, W.Va. - Bluefield's two colleges traveled an hour from their campuses to play the final installment of the 2019 softball Battle of the Bluefields, hosted by Bluefield State College, and the Rams completed the season sweep on the campus of James Monroe High School, taking the first game 13-2 in five innings and the nightcap 12-6.
In the opener BC exploded for 11 runs in the second inning to put the game away. Key in the inning were a grand slam home run by
Kristin Storer, and a three-run blast by
Laken Sparks.
Gabrielle Melick had a strong game at the plate collecting three hits for BC.Â
In the circle
Lexi Harmon picked up the win as she pitched four innings and allowed only two hits and struck out four Lady Blues.
Haley Davis pitched the final inning.
In the nightcap Bluefield pounded out 18 hits including home runs by Harmon,
Carlee King and
Meredith Throckmorton.
Riley O'Neal and Storer each had three hits.
Sparks picked up the win in the circle.
