BLUEFIELD - Baseball earned a doubleheader split with Union College, Friday at Bowen Field to open an important AAC series. After dropping the opening game 21-9 to the Bulldogs, the Rams took the nightcap 4-3. The two team play the rubber game of the series Saturday afternoon at the historic ballpark.
Game two saw
Alex Perkins pitch five innings and strike out six Bulldogs. Along the way Perkins allowed two runs in picking up the win.
Justin Coleman earned the save as he pitched the final two innings. It was Perkins' fifth win of the season in six decisions and Coleman's third save.
The game ended as the Rams' executed a 1-2-3 double play to preserve the 4-3 win.
Ozzie Millet was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead BC.
In game one Bluefield took the early lead as
Jordan Huntley hit his seventh home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Huntley later hit his eighth home run of the year, but a 10-run third inning by Union spelled doom for the Rams in the 21-9 loss.
Andreas Holtzer was 3-for-4 for Bluefield with four RBI, and Huntley was also 3-for-4 with 3 runs batted in.
The two teams conclude the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
