Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's volleyball suffers heartbreaking loss to Campbellsville at the Dome

BLUEFIELD – Men's volleyball's four-game winning streak came to a halt Saturday afternoon as the Campbellsville Tigers came from behind to claim a five set win over the Rams at the Dome Gymnasium.
Campbellsville took the first meeting between the schools in three games on Jan. 25 at the inaugural NCCAA Men's Invitational played at Trinity College in Palos Heights Illinois.
In the first set the teams matched each other point-for-point in the early going, each   the lead, and each forcing ties. Bluefield was the first to gain more than a one-point lead, going ahead 7-5. The Rams' lead grew to three on an Aieron Leary kill. Campbellsville, however, charged back and took the lead. Trailing 13-10, BC called its first time out. After the time out the Rams rallied and tied things at 14 and later retook the lead 17-16. BC built a 21-18 lead and won 25-22 on a Chris Dixon kill.
Action in the second set was as thrilling as in the first as the lead went back-and-forth between the teams and three points was the largest lead for either side. Midway through Campbellsville pulled out to a five-point lead at 13-8 and the Rams called time to regroup. The Rams worked their way back into the set, pulled to within two points on several occasions but could not get any closer and Campbellsville evened the match, taking the set 25-21.
The third set saw BC score the first point and once again the teams battled each point. BC managed to gain a two-point lead at 18-16 before Campbellsville tied it at 18. Campbellsville retook the lead 21-20 and the Rams tied it at 21 on a Chaz Franqui kill. A block by Chris Dixon later gave the Rams a 24-23 lead and the Rams went on to win 27-25 to take a 2-1 lead.
Bluefield led early in the fourth set and held a two-point advantage until CU drew even at 17. The Rams retook the lead 23-17 on a Dixon kill, but the Tigers eventually won 27-25.
In the fifth and deciding set the Rams quickly jumped to a 4-1 lead and pushed it to 6-2 at which time Campbellsville called time out. The Tigers then took control, took the lead and went on to claim the win 15-13.
Chiaparini had 20 kills for the Rams and Carleek Owens added 14. Franqui had 44 assists. Both Leary and Owens had 14 digs. It was the first five-set match of the season for the Rams.
