Rams send seniors off victorious

BLUEFIELD – Senior Night for Bluefield College football featured a rematch between the Rams and the Kentucky Christian University Knights. Part two of the Rams-Knights saga of 2019 was a stellar night for senior Tyrice Henry who had a pair of touchdowns, one on an interception, another on a punt return and the Rams claimed a 30-12 win.
A month after the teams combined for 111 points, the first half saw the teams score a combined nine. Kentucky Christian took a 6-0 lead on a pair of field goals before Tanner Griffith got the Rams on the board with 1:17 left in the half with a 44-yard boot to make it 6-3 at halftime.
KCU managed 139 yards of offense the first two quarters while the Rams moved the ball 35 yards on a damp night at Mitchell Stadium.
BC drew even when Griffith knotted the game on the Rams' first drive on the second half with a 46-yard field goal with 11:33 to play in the third.
Kentucky Christian got the game's first touchdown on a six-yard TD pass with 5:45 to play in the third. Henry blocked the extra point making the score 12-6 in favor of the Knights.
The Rams took the lead when Henry stepped in front of a KCU pass at the 17-yard line, picked it off and returned it to the end zone. Griffith's kick gave BC a 13-12 lead.
On KCU's next possession Shaun Kolb intercepted a pass and moments later Aidan Wilder connected with Jaquan Ebron for an 11-yard touchdown pass. Griffith's kick made it 20-12. The Rams' onslaught continued when Henry grabbed a KCU punt on his own 29-yard line and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown. Griffith's extra point made it 27-12.
The Rams' final score came with on a 23-yard field goal by Griffith with 1:01 left in the game.
Kentucky Christian out-gained the Rams in total offense 256-135. Wilder completed 8-of-20 passes for 59 yards. Jaquan Ebron had five catches for 53 yards and a score. Cameron Wright toted the pigskin 25 times for 92 yards to lead the Bluefield ground attack.
Defensively DaMarcus Wimbush had 13 tackles and Logan Patron had 10 to lead BC. The Rams picked off five passes in the game. In addition to Henry and Kolb's picks, Logan Hinnant, Charles Turner, and Greg Amos also had interceptions for the Rams.
With the victory the Rams finish the season with a 4-7 record.
Prior to the game the Rams honored seniors Alan Bowen, Henry, Logan Hinnant, Kolb, and Wilder along with manager Terrence Hall. Also recognized were cheer team members Deasha Manns, Kaitlyn Oxford and Onnika Turley.
