DAYTON, Tenn. – Jermiah Jenkins scored the 1,000
th point of his collegiate career and the junior point guard tallied 17 points on the night but the Rams fell to Bryan College 75-61 in AAC basketball action Wednesday night.
Bluefield jumped out to a 12-point lead in the game's first five minutes but midway through the opening half that lead had diminished to five and the home-standing Lions were shooting the one-and-one. The Rams responded and pushed the lead back to 12, but again Bryan cut it to five with just under four minutes left in the half. Bluefield made a final push and carried a 10-point lead into the intermission, 35-25.
Five minutes into the second half Bryan had cut Bluefield's lead to three at 44-41 and a minute later it was a two-point game. Bryan would tie the game at 46 only to see Jenkins score his 997
th point on a jumper in the lane. The Lions took the lead with 10:30 to play on a three, 49-48. It was their first lead of the contest. A pair of threes pushed Bryan's lead to 54-48. With five minutes to play, Bryan's lead stood at 10 points, 65-55.The Lions' lead grew as high as 18 in the final minutes of the game.
Jenkins' 1,000
th point came on a free throw with 30 seconds remaining in the game, as did his 1,001
st.
Jenkins topped the Bluefield scoring column with 17 points and added six assists.
Niquan Cousins, the reigning AAC Player of the Week finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Bryan out-scored the Rams 49-26 in the second half to gain the win.
