Rams sting Yellow Jackets

BLUEFIELD – The Rams got back on the winning track with a 45-0 win over Allen University Saturday night at Mitchell Stadium.

The contest with the Yellow Jackets was scheduled last week after Bluefield's contest with St. Andrews was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence.

Bluefield set the tone for the game early, scoring the first points in the game's first five minutes when Shiloh Ward connected with Lowell Patron Jr. on a scoring strike. The extra point kick by Tanner Griffith was true and the Rams were on top 7-0 with just over five minutes off the game clock.

Bluefield added seven more to the board when Tyrice Henry took an Allen punt back 65 yards for a score with just over a minute remaining on the first quarter clock.

The Rams continued to add to their lead. Griffith booted a 41-yard field goal, Ward hooked up with Charles Black on another scoring strike, and then Ward ran for a score to give Bluefield a 31-0 halftime lead.

After the break Ward threw his third TD pass of the game, this one to Antonio Strickland, and the final BC score was a TD pass from Cason Whitt to Jer'Mikal Monroe in the final minutes of the game.

The Bluefield defense was stellar throughout, holding the Yellow Jackets out of the endzone the entire night and limiting the visitors to 187 yards of total offense.

Leading the charge for BC were linebackers Michael Everett and DaMarcus Wimbush. Everett had 19 tackles and a sack, while Wimbush had 17 tackles and one-and-a-half sacks. Logan Hinnant had eight tackles and Shaun Kolb had seven.

The Rams are back in action Saturday night at Mitchell Stadium as the No. 6 Reinhardt Eagles come to town for the Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division opener. It will be Bluefield Union Mission and Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
