BLUEFIELD – The Union Bulldogs scored in the 88th minute to defeat the Rams 1-0, Wednesday night at the East River Soccer Complex.
The last time the two squads met, Union claimed a 1-0 overtime win the AAC semifinals on their home pitch. Emotions ran high from the outset as the teams played a scoreless, physical first half. After the intermission, tough play continued play was halted and teams separated at one point in which yellow and red cards were issued on both sides. For the final 34 minutes Bluefield played with two men down and Union one man down.
It appeared that the match would head to overtime, but Union's Edwin Garcia found the back of the net with 1:22 showing on the clock for the match's only goal.
Union moved to 6-4-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while Bluefield suffered its second consecutive loss and dropped to 11-3 overall and 2-3 in the AAC.
The Rams play Saturday afternoon at Point.
