Rams fall to Lee in regional title game; await at-large bid to World Series

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Chris McCollister's 10th inning RBI double gave the Rams a walk-off win over Hiwassee College in the team's first game on Thursday, before host Lee University took an 8-1 win over Bluefield in the NCCAA Mideast Region Championship game.

Despite the loss, as region runners-up the Rams will have a chance at securing at at-large bid to the 2015 NCCAA World Series in Mason, Ohio. The field will be set over the weekend.

Game 1 vs. Hiwassee
Facing an eliminatino game, the Rams fell behind 2-0 early against the Tigers. But, the Rams scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings to take a 6-2 lead. McCollister and Tyler Timmer each had RBI singles in the fourth, while Dan Copeland had a two-run home run in the fifth. Nic Ratliff added an RBI singe in the seventh and a Copeland double scored one more for the 6-2 advantage.

Hiwassee came back with a big eighth inning though, scoring four runs to knot the game at 6-all.

The Rams went ahead once again in the eighth thanks to an RBI double from Timmer, but the Tigers answered once again with a single run in the ninth.

Hiwassee threatened in the 10th by loading the bases, but Zach Tapia got the Tigers to ground into an inning-ending double play.

The Rams took advantage in the bottom half. Tyler Rome reached base on a single with one out. After a fly out, McCollister doubled down the third base line and Rome was able to score from first for the walk off win.

Tapia picked up the win for the Rams. Alex Haas had the start, going 4.1 innings and allowing two runs on four hits.

Game 2 vs. Lee
A Ratliff single in the fourth earned Bluefield a 1-0 lead, as Gavan Yates scored on the play--Yates served as catcher Garrett Schilling's courtesy runner after being hit by a pitch.

However, the Flames put together a seven-hit, six-run inning in the fifth to take control of the game with the regional title in sight.

Bluefield was held scoreless the rest of the way, while Lee tacked on two more runs in the eighth for the 8-1 win.
