CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Chaz Miller tossed a seven-inning no hitter on Tuesday afternoon as the Rams opened NCCAA Mideast Regional play with a 12-0 win over Morthland College. Behind Miller's no-no, the Rams hammered out 14 hits en route to the mercy-rule win, holding a 10-run advantage through seven innings.
Bluefield advances in the double-elimination tournament to face Lee University, Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Sawyer McLamb went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in four.
Tyler Timmer and
Jacob Schober also tallied three hits apiece, as the Rams' third-through-fifth batters went a combined 9-for-11.
Chris McCollister,
Ben Rife and
Daniel Copeland claimed two RBI apiece, while TImmer and Schober had one apiece in the runaway win.
A McLamb double in the first frame started the scoring, allowing two runners to score. McLamb added a sac fly in the third and an RBI-triple in the fifth for his next two RBI.
A seven-hit, eight-run fifth inning broke the game wide open as Miller cruised through the Morthland lineup.
Bluefield added one more run in the sixth for the 12-0 final.
Miller struck out five batters on the way to his seventh win of the year. He walked four while keeping Morthland hitless.
