Softball wraps up 2015 season, falling to (RV) Bryan

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The Bluefield College softball team concluded its 2015 campaign on Friday evening, as (RV) Bryan College picked up 5-0 and 7-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference wins.

Bluefield closes its season with a 5-31 mark overall and a 1-19 record in AAC games. Meanwhile, Bryan moves to 25-12 on the year and 15-3 in AAC play.

The Lady Rams struggled to get their bats going in game one against the Lions' ace Kaitie Simms, who moved to 16-7 with the win. Bluefield had just three hits, as Morgan Stephens, Laura Craven and Michaela Carter each hit safely. Craven tossed the complete game, with just three of the five runs being earned for the Lions. She struck out four.

Bluefield tallied six hits in game two and pulled even with Bryan at 2-2 through four innings. Doubles from Kasey Holcomb and Victoria Pietsch began the inning to plate the team's first run. Kelsey Bryant pinch ran for Pietsch and, after advancing to third, was brought home on a squeeze bunt play from Eryn Haley, who also reached base safely.

Bryan responded in the fifth though, scoring three runs for the 5-2 lead. Bryan added a run in each of the final innings for a 7-2 final.
