BLUEFIELD, Va. -- No. 19 Reinhardt proved to be a challenge on Sunday afternoon, as the visiting Lady Eagles shutout Bluefield for a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference victories. Reinhardt took the first 19-0 in five innings and the second 10-0 in six innings.
Game 1After Bluefield held the visitors scoreless in the first inning, Reinhardt broke open the game with eight hits and tallied seven runs in the second frame. The Lady Eagles had five doubles in the frame and also benefitted from an error, with three of the seven runs being earned.
Reinhardt continued to find the hits, as they finished the game with 17. They scored five more in the third, four in the fourth and three more in the fifth for the 19-0 final.
Kasey Holcomb and
Kaitlyn Pennington each had a pair of hits, while
Laura Craven added one. Bluefield stranded a pair in the opening inning, and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth.
Brienna Sparks took the loss in the circle as she went two innings.
Michaela Carter also pitched a pair of innings, while
Andrea Christian tossed one. RU's Madison Luck claimed the win.
Game 2The Eagles pounded out double-digit hits and runs in game two as well en route to the sweep. They opened with a four-run first, added two in the third, a single run in the fourth and three more in the sixth for the victory.
Craven threw for five innings to take the loss, while
Eryn Haley entered in the sixth and retired three-straight. Carleigh Myatt earned the win for Reinhardt.
Bluefield had four hits in game two, one each from Holcomb, Carter, Craven and
Ali Bartley.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to face AAC opponent Union College. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
