BLUEFIELD, Va. - The Bluefield College Rams return to Mitchell Stadium, Saturday, following a two-game road trip to Kentucky that saw the Rams fall to now No. 1 Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville. Bluefield (0-5) welcomes No. 14 Reinhardt (4-0) to town in the first gridiron meeting between the Rams and Eagles.
BC is coming off a 40-14 loss at Campbellsville.
Marion Harris rushed for 189 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns and became the third Ram running back to rush for more than 100 yards in a game this season. Harris has 302 yards on the season.
Adrian Pope, BC's leading ball carrier with 364 yards on the ground, picked up 63 yards at Campbellsville and has a season-best 213 against Faulkner in BC's last home game. For that performance Pope was named Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Quarterback
Cason Whitt will be making his fourth start. Whitt has completed 29-of-71 passes for 409 yards, one score and five interceptions.
Mason Maples is the leading receiver with 10 catches for 128 yards.
Cory Mabry has caught nine balls for 117 yards and
Semaj Tisdale has seven catches for 119 yards.
The defense is anchored by linebackers
Ernest Moore and
Harry Casseus. Moore leads the team with 49 tackles and Casseus has 45. Defensive end Darrius Flowers has two-and-a-half sacks while safety
Carlton Toussaint has a pair of interceptions to go along with 33 tackles.
Reinhardt comes to town fresh off a 32-28 win over Pikeville. The Eagles are NAIA's No. 1 rushing offense, averaging 333 yards a game. Niagel Curtis leads the rushing attack with 293 yards. L.J. Stegall has picked up 222 and Sam Jones has carried for 204. Dante Dennis has rushed for 161 and quarterback Ryan Thompson has carried for 129 yards on 21 carries. Thompson has completed 38-of-57 attempts for 557 yards while backup QB Johnathan Chamblee has thrown for 318 yards on 13-of-22 passing.
This is the first meeting between Reinhardt and Bluefield on the gridiron. While both schools play football in the Mid-South Conference, both schools are members of the Appalachian Athletic Conference in their other sports.
Rain, possibly heavy at times, is in the forecast for Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1;30 and it is Alzheimer's Awareness Day at Mitchell Stadium. Representatives of the Alzheimer's Association will be on hand accepting donations for care and research.
