Walker announces 2014 recruiting class

28 student-athletes have committed to joining the BC football program.

Once the 2013 football season was complete, Ordell Walker and his coaching staff immediately hit the road looking to continue the growth and development of the Bluefield College football program. That hard work has begun to show and Walker, who was named as BC's head coach on May 31, 2013, is now announcing his class of 2014 signees.

"I am so excited by the great group of young men who have decided to join the Ram family," Walker reported on his first Bluefield College recruiting class which currently includes 28 signees.

"Our team has become bigger, stronger and more athletic with this class. We have also added some much needed depth at some key positions," explained Walker.

Walker may be thrilled with the athleticism and strength of the 2014 signees, but he is also strongly focused on and excited about the potential that the young men display outside the game of football.

"The best part of this group is their commitment to pursuing a successful and significant life on and off the field," Walker stated.

Offensive Coordinator Aaron Mingo is similarly excited as the staff sought players that look to excel in sport and life.

"We are very excited about our first signing day class here at Bluefield," stated Mingo. "This class has some big-time players who fit into our philosophy and the school's mission."

On the field, Mingo is confident the coaches have found players that can make an immediate impact. "I think we did a great job of addressing our needs on the offensive and defensive lines, and provided much needed depth at several other positions," Mingo continued.

Overall, Mingo calls the recruiting class a large success based on the staff's goals for recruiting this year. "We had three big objectives we wanted to accomplish in recruiting this year: Win in Virginia, build from the inside out—meaning start with the offensive and defensive lines—and get the Bluefield College Football product out there. With the players we signed on February 5, it appears that we did just that," Mingo concluded.

The 2014 recruiting class currently stands at 28 signees who will enroll for the fall semester. The program has also benefitted from six mid-year transfers and currently has 55 returners from the fall season.
