Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bluefield, Ohio Christian play to 1-1 draw

1152CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- Bluefield College and Ohio Christian played to a 1-1 draw on Thursday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Shoenbaum Stadium, as 110 minutes of soccer was not enough to determine a winner. The game was relocated due to wet field conditions at East River Soccer Complex.

Bluefield moves to 1-8-2 with the tie, while the Trailblazers record goes to 7-7-1 with their first tie of the year.

The Lady Rams controlled momentum early and lit up the scoreboard first at the 6:25 mark, as senior Lindsey Pelletteri scored the first goal of her career. After a Bluefield attack, a loose ball found its way leaving the box, where Pelletteri sent it back on frame, sailing it over OCU keeper Mekayla Deffenbaugh for the 1-0 BC lead.

Bluefield continued to pressure the Ohio Christian defense early with offensive opportunities. But, a pair of shots from Jessica Newman and another from Pelletteri in the following 13 minutes were each saved by Deffenbaugh to hold BC at the 1-0 lead.

BC came out attacking once again in the second, but attempts from Yaira Mota and Whitney Browning each missed wide.

Opportunities for the Trailblazers were limted, but Lexi Paas capitalized on the team's corner kick in the 65th minute, bending the kick past BC's keeper Amanda Brown to square the match, 1-1.

Each team's goal scorer in the game tallied shots as regulation came to an end, but both attempts were saved.

Ohio Christian tallied two shots in the first overtime period, but both were well high of the frame. Neither team had a shot in the final 10 minute overtime, leading to the 1-1 draw.

Bluefield outshot the Trailblazers 12-8 on the day and 7-3 in shots on goal. The Lady Rams had six corner opportunities for the afternoon, but could not take advantage.

Brown made a pair of saves in goal for BC while Deffenbaugh made six saves for the Trailblazers.

Bluefield is scheduled to return to action Saturday against University of the Cumberlands.
