Football returns to Volunteer State to face Bethel

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The Bluefield College football team dropped a 40-10 decision last week in Tennessee, and will look for better results this week in the Volunteer State as they travel to McKenzie to visit Bethel University (0-5, 0-2 MSC West). Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET.

Fans in the Bluefield area can listen to BC's coverage of the game on 1440 AM.

Live stats will also be available, courtesy of Bethel University.

The Matchup
Bluefield is making the trip to McKenzie, Tenn., for the second straight season. Last year, the Wildcats (MSC West) doubled up BC, 56-28. However, the 28 points tied for BC's highest scoring total of the 2012 season, with the Rams' 260 yards of total offense being their second highest total in their return season.

Scouting the Wildcats
After holding a ranking of No. 9 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll, Bethel fell out of the poll after dropping its first game. They are now 0-5 overall and 0-2 in MSC West games. Kentucky Chrstian, the two teams' only common opponent to this point, defeated the Wildcats, 24-10.
In its first four games, Bethel scored just 32 points, but recorded 36 points in a five point loss last week against Reinhardt.
Travis Smith has led BU's ground attack, netting 418 yards this season in four games (104.5 yards/gm) with three touchdowns. His 89 attempts give him an average of 4.7 yards/carry.
The Wildcats have used three different QBs, led by Kerry Sellers II's 318 yards. However, B.J. Robertson has recorded both of the team's passing TDs this season.

Gaining Momentum
The BC offense had a good showing against Cumberland last week, posting a season high in total offensive yards (271), led by Marion Harris' 121 yards on the ground. Harris' 100-yd rushing performance was the first for BC since the return of its program.
